  1. NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh 2.0.0 ALPHA17

  3. The Alpha 17 version of NCSA Mosaic for the Macintosh 2.0 was 
  4. released Friday, November 11, 1994.   
  5.  
  6. This is an ALPHA release, therefore there are many new features or 
  7. bugs that you will need to be aware of to make your use of the new 
  8. release a pleasant experience.  You may encounter problems that 
  9. will cause your machine to crash. You may not find certain aspects 
  10. of the program aesthetically pleasing,  and the program will trash 
  11. your current preferences.

  15. For best results, please make a copy of your preferences file (Mosaic 
  16. Preferences) before using the new alpha versions.

  62. DECOMPRESSING THE ARCHIVE
  63. -------------------------------------------------------------
  64. To UnStuff & UnBinHex NCSA Mosaic we recommend that you use
  65. StuffIt Expander.  The expander is available at ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu  
  66. and other ftp sites.  To unbinhex StuffIt Expander you will also  
  67. need binhex.macbinary (which can be found in /Mac/Utilities at 
  68. ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu).

  76. No longer crashes on loading when 32-bit addressing is on

  112.     don't have the necessary access privileges"

  139. Open URL:  Mosaic now remembers last URL entered into the Open

  143. Options Menu
  144. ------------
  145. Use This URL for Home: Allows you to select the current document to 
  146.    be used as the new home page.  This is automatically saved in the 
  147.    preferences file.
  148. Use Header Mode: This feature allows you to get additional 
  149.    information about a link without causing you to connect to that link.   
  150. The information, which includes: file type, modification date, file size, 
  151.    and server information, appears in a separate window.
  152. There are two ways to access it:  1) Through the Options Menu, turn 
  153. Use Header Mode on, then click on a link to get the information.  2)  
  154. When Use Header Mode is off, command-click on a link to access the 
  155.    same information.

  157. Preferences 
  158. -------------
  159. The preferences window has been completely rewritten to make it 
  160.    easier to modify.   
  161. The preferences dialog has been divided into a series of functional 
  162.    categories.  These include:  Miscellaneous, Links, Directories, Gates.  
  163.    (more to be added later)
  164. Background Color:   now user modifiable
  165. Global History List:  Mosaic now maintains a history of links between 
  166.    sessions.  The user can determine the number of entries that may be 
  167.    included in the Global History, or they may choose to remove files 
  168.    from the Global History that are older than 'n' days.  
  169. Link Colors:  Visited link colors fade to the unvisited link colors as 
  170.    they mature. This may be turned on or off as desired.
  171. Set Hotlist Directory:  Set this to a folder that contains your hotlists 
  172.    and all hotlists will be readily available in the new hotlist window.  
  173. No need to load each one individually!
  174. FIREWALL:  You can set Mosaic to use CERN Proxy Service or SOCKS 
  175.    service!

  179. The styles window has been completely rewritten to make it 
  180.    easier to use.

  184. Any hotlist or url can be added to a user defined menu.

  188. X & MS Windows hotlists can be imported (from Hotlist dialog)
  189. Mac hotlists can be exported.  
  190.       The export format is HTML therefore the exported hotlists can
  191.       be opened as local HTML files or imported by  the X & MS
  192.       Windows versions.

  196. Speech Recognition: This has been implemented and will be available 
  197.    as soon as Apple releases their Speech Recognition extension.  This 
  198.    feature has not been turned on in this alpha release.
